Almost there

I ran an easy 5 miles in 40:47 tonight with no pain. I wore a new pair of Adidas Supernova Cushion 7s which are much lighter than the Supernova 6s I've been using. A combination of the light shoes and the low mileage over the last 7 days made me a little excitable and I ran my first mile in 7:54, which was about 20 seconds faster than I really wanted to run. Everything felt fine and stayed that way and after running I did my hip and knee exercises. If the knee still feels good at the end of the week I'll run an easy 8 on Saturday and maybe think about a little bit of faster stuff the week after that.

How do you like the shoe?? I almost bought it as my new pair. I had the 6's also and loved them.

I think they'll take some getting used to as they're not as beefy as the 6s. The upper is also lighter material. They almost felt like a heavier racing flat rather than a cushioned training shoe. They feel fast. I'll let you know my final verdict after I get them broken in.

I went through a big Adidas phase in college, in large part because it was the brand of choice at North Central for a while. These days, it's Brooks for bust for my increasingly unforgiving feet.

I alternate days between Adidas Supernova Cushion and Brooks Glycerin shoes. I've been alternating shoes since high school, except then it was Adidas and Mizuno or Adidas/Asics.

In high school, I mostly ran in Nikes, but I had a pair of Mizunos that I must have put 2000+ miles on. Those were awesome shoes.

I liked my Mizunos too. I never put more than 500 on mine though.

Nowadays I retire my shoes around 350, at the most. I'm not as light as I was in high school. At just a bit under 180 I'm still over 20 lbs heavier than I was when I graduated.

That's the great thing about running fewer miles, you can retire shoes more frequently. There was a time when retiring shoes after 350 miles would have meant a new pair about once a month.

I go through about 4 pair of shoes a year. Then again, I only run about 1200 miles a year as opposed to the 2500 or more that I ran in high school.
